Arsenal Gain First Win Over Weak Liverpool Side

Arsenal’s road towards impressive football predictions for this season’s Premier League look more assured as they dealt with a downtrodden Liverpool squad in a 2-0 victory.

The clean sheet gave recognition to Arsenal’s Robin van Persie replacements Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla, with both scoring their first goals for the club following their first two goalless draws. Abou Diaby kept impressive control of the midfield, to the delight of manager Arsene Wenger.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers faces more pressure in light of another disappointing defeat at the start of the season. Striker Andy Carroll’s West Ham United loan transfer placed the manager under further stress after his club failed to bring in a replacement before the closing of the transfer window.

J-League Review: Vegalta regain first place while Leandro's double pushes Gamba toward safety

The attention of Japanese football fans was split between league play and the Under-23 men's quarterfinal against Egypt, but those at local stadiums had plenty to cheer about

THE WEEKEND STORIES

As the J-League race continued to tighten, Vegalta Sendai returned to first place through a 2-2 draw against Yokohama F. Marinos. Rivals Sanfrecce seemed poised to retain their own lead, but surrendered two late goals to S-Pulse in a 2-1 defeat.

In Saitama, the Reds were in prime position to gain ground on the leaders after creating a 2-0 lead against FC Tokyo, but settled for the draw after surrendering two goals in the second half. Defending champs Reysol also failed to capitalise, settling for a 1-1 draw at lowly Albirex.

The weekend treated both Osakan teams well, with Gamba returnee Leandro sparking a 3-1 win over Ardija with his double, while Cerezo cruised to a 4-0 shutout of Consadole Sapporo.

Nagoya Grampus did just fine without manager Dragan 'Pixy' Stojkovic, who recieved a one-match touchline ban following his ejection from last weekend's shock upset by Consadole. The 2010 champions rode Marcus Tulio Tanaka's four-goal performance to a 5-1 win over Vissel Kobe.

After their 1-1 draw against Greece in the opening game of Euro 2012 on Friday, Poland will be without first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who received his marching orders after bringing down Dimitris Salpingidis in the box. Przemyslaw Tyton will be named as his replacement versus Dick Advocaat's side after impressing with his penalty stop from Giorgos Karagounis' spot-kick to earn his team a point.

  • Poland are still awaiting their first ever victory at the finals of a European Championship. Their record currently reads two draws, two defeats.
  • Following his strike against Greece, Robert Lewandowski now has 15 goals in 43 international appearances.
  • When the sides last met in August 2007, late strikes from Jacek Krzynowek and Jakub Blaszczykowski earned the Poles a 2-2 friendly draw in Moscow.
  • The goal conceded by Poland when Greek substitute Dimitris Salpingidis netted a second-half equaliser in the opening match was the first the Poles have conceded in their last five matches.
  • Russia's impressive 4-1 win over Czech Republic means they are now 15 games unbeaten, leaking in only five times along the way.
  • Following his double in Friday's win, Alan Dzagoev (pictured right) has now netted five goals in his last three competitive international appearances.
  • Russia's win over the Czechs was an exact role reversal to how they started Euro 2008 when they lost their opening encounter 4-1 to Spain before then going on to win their next three fixtures. Spain then knocked them out of the competition with a 3-0 win in the semi-finals.
  • If Advocaat's side win against Poland, they will be through to the quarter-finals regardless of the result between Greeze and Czech Republic.

GREECE TO FACE ZECH REPUBLIC EUFA 2012

Group A makes its second match day foray into Euro 2012 action as Greece take on the Czech Republic on Tuesday June 12 at the Municipal Stadium Wroclaw, Wroclaw.
With Greece having churned out a 1-1 draw with Poland, and the Czech Republic having been thumped by Russia 4-1, there is plenty to play for going into this clash.
Having the more attacking potential, Greece and has the additional option of Dimitris Salpingidis, a substitute against Poland who came on to score the equalizer and win the penalty that was subsequently missed.
Undefeated in the tournament qualifiers and plucky winners eight years ago, Greece provides both inspiration to other small footballing nations and hope to its fans so in need of a sporting distraction.
Greece contributed admirably to the thrilling tournament opener and, in Giorgos Samaras and Theofanis Gekas, coach Fernando Santos has two frustrating yet proven goal scorers to call on.
Playing for Eintracht Frankfurt during the 2010-2011 season, Gekas scored so many goals that his underrated team was in the top four of the top German league with around half all matches played. Then, mysteriously, he stopped scoring, and Eintracht was relegated.
However, Jaroslav Plasil and Petr Jiracek are part of a Czech midfield that should be able to dominate the central parts of the pitch. Plasil, in particular, is one to watch after setting up five of his side's first eight shots against Russia, according to Opta Sports.
Completing a tricky trio is Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky. Arsene Wenger, his club coach, when recently asked about Rosicky said simply, "I love Tomas Rosicky, personally, as a man and as a player."

EURO 2012 UPDATE STATION: Can the Recent Italian Football Scandal Affect Italy’s EURO 2012 Bid?

The EURO 2012 is fast approaching. Yet, another high-profile scandal has rocked the world of European football less than a month before the culmination of Europe’s most celebrated football event, next to the World Cup. With the limelight focused on Italy’s Lazio and Juventus being involved in a high-profile game fixing scandal, a crucial question is raised: can those issues affect Italy’s preparation for the EURO 2012?

The Background of the Scandal

In brief detail, here are the important facts on the game fixing scandal between Lazio and Juventus:

- On May 28, Italian police raided the house of Domenico Criscito, a former defender of Juventus and Genoa who is currently playing for Russia’s Zenit and was recently drawn for Italy’s EURO 2012 team. Criscito was subsequently removed from Italy’s EURO 2012 roster.

- The same day, Lazio’s captain Stefano Mauri was also arrested alongside 13 other people. All of them were alleged of being involved in a game fixing scandal, which is still pending investigation up to this day.

- Manager Antonio Conte and defender Leonardo Bonucci, both coming from Juventus, are also under investigation as well.

- Two days after the raids by police on footballers, Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti proposed that football activities in Italy shall be suspended for 2 to 3 years following the game fixing investigations.

- Investigating authorities discovered the game fixing scandal after they found out that a player from Cremonese drugged his teammates in order to lose their game (full details on this one are still vague as of this writing).

- Right now, investigations are ongoing, extending towards other Italian football players that might be involved.

A Déjà Vu for Italy

The current football scandal is not the first one that tagged Italian football clubs as perpetrators. Last 2006, the infamous Calciopoli scandal tagged Italy’s top football clubs Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina and Reggina as being involved in a game rigging scandal. The clubs were accused of choosing their favorite referees which will favor them back on the field.  The incident led to the punishment of top Italian football officials, including a top Juventus administrator, Lazio’s owner and several others.

Not Backing Out

Having recovered from the Calciopoli incident, the recent scandal has struck Italy anew with questions on the integrity of the Italian football. Yet, amidst of all those corruption issues, the Italian national team has expressed interest to continue on with their EURO 2012 campaign, even as coach Cesare Prandelli mentioned that it would not bother him if ever his team decides to withdraw.

Can Italy Redeem Itself in EURO2012?

With Italy being the home of some of Europe’s strongest football teams by career track records, supporters of Italy for EURO 2012 technically have no reason to worry about. For sure, members of the Italian national squad will never let their guard down in this year’s EURO. As a matter of redemption, there are more reasons why Italy has to raise the bar further. Not even its latest defeat against Russia at 3-0 during the EURO2012 warm-up games can lower its chances, as prominent critics like Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni suggest. All eyes are surely set on Italy in its first EURO 2012 appearance under Group C on June 11, 2012, 1:00 AM (GMT+ 8:00).

Ukraine will be front and center on the world stage with Poland as the two nations set to co-host the UEFA Euro 2012 Tournament. Unfortunately for Ukraine, it could very easily walk away from the tournament with an 0-3 record.

Bayern  Munchen vs. Chelsea, I guess since this two teams has the ability and are strong teams, we can’t picture out who will take the championship.

I guess by just simply looking back from their previous fight we can tell who can win.

If Chelsea are to win the Champions League then bookies favour them to do it within the 90 minute mark.

Uefa president has expressed his joy with the Bianconeri's Serie A success

Uefa president Michel Platini has has expressed his joy with the Bianconeri's Serie A success and feels the Old Lady thoroughly deserve their success.

Nevertheless, the former France international was unsure as to whether Juventus have the quality to fight for Champions League glory in the 2012-13 campaign.

"I am obviously neutral as Uefa president, but my heart still beats for Juve and I'm very happy for them. Their success is well deserved and I congratulate them with it," Platini stated in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
