Villas-Boas fears sack
Under-fire Chelsea boss sees comparisons to Ancelotti dismissal
Andre Villas-Boas has revealed for the first time his fear that the 'cultural pattern' at Chelsea could continue and he could be sacked.
Villas-Boas has repeatedly insisted he retains the full backing of billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, but has now confessed to the first seeds of doubt about whether he would keep his job.
Speculation has been rife over the future of Villas-Boas during what is currently Chelsea's worst season since Abramovich joined the club in 2003. Saturday's 3-0 Premier League win over Bolton ended a miserable run of five games without a win and four victories from 14, easing the pressure on Villas-Boas. - http://www1.skysports.com/

Giggs delighted with milestone
Welsh ace happy after 'great day'
Ryan Giggs hailed his match-winning goal on his 900th appearance for Manchester United against Norwich as 'special'.
The Canaries were beaten 2-1 after the veteran winger's stoppage-time winner at Carrow Road. Paul Scholes had given the visitors an early lead only for Grant Holt to restore parity with seven minutes remaining.
But after Giggs' late effort, the Welshman said the moment was very special for himself and his side. He told Sky Sports: "Yeah, it was obviously special and Norwich made it a tough game for us and they played really well. To score late on is always nice and to get the winner is a bonus.
"We knew how important a time it was (with the celebrations). Obviously (Manchester) City put pressure on us yesterday (Saturday) winning so we knew we had to come here and win. And obviously you see the delight of the players when the goal went in, late on.
"Right through the squads and right through the teams that the manager has managed they've always not given in and always scored late goals. This team is no different and we only started playing after Norwich scored and we could have scored three or four." - http://www1.skysports.com/

Valencia boost for United
Winger could return ahead of scheduled to face Tottenham
Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping Antonio Valencia can return from injury to feature in Manchester United's trip to title rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the start of March.
Valencia suffered a hamstring injury in the first leg of the Europa League tie against Ajax last week after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win. The winger was initially expected to be sidelined for around a month, however, Valencia appears primed for a swift return to action.
Ferguson is optimistic that the Ecuador international will be available for selection when United head to White Hart Lane on Sunday 4th March. "The availability of Ashley Young and Nani as natural wide players considerably strengthens our attacking options," wrote the United manager in the official matchday programme for Thursday's return meeting against Ajax.
"And I am sure our strikers are pleased to see them. "They will be sorry to see Antonio Valencia injured again because he too provides great service from out on his wing, but it's not a particularly serious injury and he should be back in a week or so." In the absence of Valencia, the Red Devils started with Nani and Young in the wide positions for Ajax's visit to Old Trafford. - http://www1.skysports.com/
Chelsea Vs Bolton Wanderers 2/25 11PM GMT+8
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE: 12BET odds Chelsea Vs Bolton Wanderers 2/25 11PM GMT+8
Reports of Frank Lampard's demise with Chelsea have proven to be more than a bit premature. The 33-year-old midfielder has proven to be a rock amidst rough waters at Stamford Bridge, compiling a club-best nine goals along with four assists amidst steadily increasing pitch time.
Lost among the dreck at Reebok Stadium this season has been the steady play of Ivan Klasnic. The 32-year-old Croatian striker leads the Trotters in goals (seven) and assists (four). Klasnic has yet to score in five career appearances against the Blues, but he may finally have his chance if, in fact, John Terry isn't fit to play on Saturday.

Tevez makes City apology
Striker also withdraws appeal over fine

The Argentinian has also withdrawn his appeal against City's fine of six weeks' wages for gross misconduct, which was due to be heard by the Premier League in the coming days. The 28-year-old reported back to the club last week after failing to secure a move during the January transfer window and says he now wants to fight for a place in the team. "I wish to apologise sincerely and unreservedly to everybody I have let down and to whom my actions over the last few months have caused offence. " Carlos Tevez issues an apology for his conduct Quotes of the week Manager Roberto Mancini had long maintained he would only consider Tevez for selection again after an apology. - http://www1.skysports.com/

Wigan announce £7.2m losses
But Latics chief executive content with financial figures
Wigan have announced an increased net loss of £7.2m in the latest financial figures released by the Premier League club.
The deficit over the last 12 months has risen by £3.2m but chief executive Jonathan Jackson believes the overall results are "encouraging". The Latics reported a £4.9m profit in earnings before deductions, with turnover increasing by 16 per cent to £50.5m on the back of an improved Premier League broadcasting contract and stable salary costs. The Lancashire club's net debt was almost unchanged at £72.2m and more than half has since been converted to equity - writing off what was owed to chairman Dave Whelan.
Jackson said: "Despite the increase in net loss the results overall are encouraging. "By increasing turnover and controlling costs at the same levels as the previous year the club is continuing to progress to an annual break-even position. "We continue to strive to maintain our position in the Premier League by significant investment in the playing squad, while at the same time employing prudent financial management to ensure the club's long-term stability.
"This position would not have been possible without the continued financial support of Dave Whelan. "The club cannot continue to make losses every year and we are continuing to shape all aspects of the club to ensure the long-term future remains positive both on and off the pitch." - http://www1.skysports.com/

Gattuso - I'll play for free
Midfielder fighting eye problem; Berlusconi to return to presidency role
AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is so determined to fulfil his love of football that he has offered to play for free when he overcomes a serious eye problem.
The 34-year-old has not played since colliding with team-mate Alessandro Nesta in the Serie A opener on 9th September. Gattuso has been diagnosed with myasthenia, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease, in what are the latter years of his playing career. But the Italian remains fully focused on playing and has told Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani of his willingness to play without pay when he is fully fit. Gattuso, whose contract expires at the end of the season, said: "I'm ready to play for free even.
"I've told Adriano Galliani that it's not a matter of money. I want to return to doing what I love." Gattuso has been at Milan since 1999 and has won everything in a glittering career, including the 2006 World Cup with Italy. He said: "I live for football...at the age of 34, I have never thought about stopping." Meanwhile, Silvio Berlusconi is expected to return to the role of AC Milan president in April. A meeting of shareholders will be held that month to assess the club's accounts and the presidency will also be on the agenda. Harry admits Hazard interest
Spurs boss has discussed the possibility of signing Lille playmaker
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Lille playmaker Eden Hazard is one of the club's summer transfer targets.
Hazard is one of European football's brightest talents and the 21-year-old is widely expected to leave French champions Lille at the end of the season. The Belgium international is keen to make the Premier League his next port of call and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Reports in France recently claimed that Spurs had won the race to snap up Hazard, who subsequently confirmed he would be open to moving to White Hart Lane. Redknapp has now admitted he has discussed the prospect of adding Hazard to his squad and any deal would be a coup for Spurs given the level of interest in the schemer. "Hazard is a player that we have spoken about," said Redknapp. "He is a player who is definitely on our list. "We spoke about him a few weeks ago. We started talking about possibly getting him in then." - http://www1.skysports.com/

Whelan ready for Valencia
Stoke take on Spaniards in last 32 of Europa League
Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan thinks the Potters can surprise a few people when they face Valencia on Thursday.
City take on the Spanish side in their Europa League Round of 32 first leg clash at the Britannia Stadium and the Republic of Ireland international is looking forward to mixing it with the Spaniards.
"Absolutely nobody gave us a chance of getting through the qualifying rounds in the summer, let alone qualifying beyond the group stage, so we will go into this game with the belief that we can come through it," Whelan told the club's official website. "We know it's going to be incredibly difficult because Valencia are a top class side with huge tradition, fantastic history and a great set of players. "But, that said, if we go into the game worrying about them, then we may as well not turn up." He added: "We have shocked a few people with our results and performances in Europe already this season, so there is no reason why that can't continue to be the case in this match. "We aren't favourites, but that is a good thing for us - we have nothing to lose." - http://www1.skysports.com/

Enrique urges better home form
Defender insists Reds are still in the race for top-four finish
Defender Jose Enrique has called on Liverpool to improve their home form, particularly against their nearest rivals for a UEFA Champions League spot. The impact of defeat to Manchester United at the weekend was lessened by losses suffered by Chelsea and Newcastle, with only Arsenal winning. But even though the Gunners moved into fourth it was only by virtue of goals scored and the gap between Liverpool, in seventh, and Champions League qualification remains four points. With both Arsenal, next month, and Chelsea, in the Reds' final home match of the season, still to visit, Enrique believes addressing their form at Anfield will be key in the race to return to Europe's elite.
Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield this season but have won just four of 12 matches, having drawn against Sunderland, Norwich, Swansea, Blackburn, Stoke, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham. "It is hard to beat Manchester United at home but against teams like Blackburn and Swansea (both draws) at home we need to win the points," the Spaniard told the club's official website. "There are many games left and we have to beat many teams to try and be there. "You never know in football - that's why everyone likes it. But we're still in the race." - http://www1.skysports.com/

Arsene Wenger calls for focus ahead of Thierry Henry's final Arsenal appearance in Champions League clash with AC Milan
The boss has called for concentration ahead of the "massive game" at San Siro, adding that the legendary striker would have been a success without his influence on his career
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged his side to focus on their game against AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The match looks set to be Thierry Henry's final appearance for the Gunners after it was confirmed that his loan spell from New York Red Bulls will not be extended.Wenger told the club's official website: “For me, first I hope it will be a positive emotion [on Wednesday]. But what is important is that we focus on the night because it is a massive game for us. Let's hope we have positive emotions there.”Henry made a dream return to Arsenal by netting the winning goal on his second debut for the club against Leeds United in the FA Cup third round. The French striker has since gone on to score in the 7-1 demolition of Blackburn Rovers before coming on as a substitute to grab the winner against Sunderland on Saturday.
But Wenger, who has now managed Henry in three separate spells at two different clubs, says the player would have been a success without his impact on his career.“He would have done it without me,” he added. “I think that great players have one great characteristic - they will always surprise you with how far they can go. The motivation inside them is very big and they never have enough.“Everybody is different. Let's say with Thierry that I made him start in Monaco when he was 17.“Then I brought him to Arsenal, then he went to Barcelona and then I brought him back to Arsenal so it is a little bit a three-times story, three chapters in the book.“I think the history we have had together is special because you do not [usually] meet the same player three times.” - http://www.goal.com/
