Aston Villa Vs Chelsea premier liga match preview

Aston Villa have generally struggled against the big boys this year, although they did win 3-1 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and Chelsea should have too much for them so 4/5 is a great bit of business.

Aston Villa’s main problem has been putting the ball in the back of the net this season. No-one outside the bottom three has scored less than them this season. To go with this Chelsea haven’t scored more than 1 goal away from home since the start of January in the league

Petrov fever fear for Villa

 Villa skipper has high temperature

Stiliyan-Petrov.jpg (475×323)

Captain Stiliyan Petrov is a worry for Aston Villa ahead of their crunch weekend home game against top-four chasing Chelsea.
The West Midlands side are low on confidence following last weekend's 3-0 defeat by Arsenal and are in danger of slipping into the relegation tussle. Although the club are currently eight points clear of the bottom three, Alex McLeish's side face a tough run of fixtures in April after the Blues' visit to Villa Park. Alan Hutton and Charles N'Zogbia will almost certainly miss the game with respective calf and knee problems while Darren Bent (ankle), Richard Dunne (collarbone) and Ciaran Clark (knee) are sidelined. And with James Collins and Emile Heskey carrying knocks, there is now a real worry over the Bulgarian.
"Stan Petrov's got a bit of a fever," explained assistant manager Peter Grant. "He came off after the game with a high temperature on Saturday. "He didn't feel that great during the game. The doc took his temperature on the way back up and it was very high."

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs feels that the derby match with Manchester City next month will prove the decisive fixture in the Premier League title race.

The Red Devils stretched their lead at the top of the table to three points with a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Monday night, after City were held to a draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

The two sides go head-to-head at the Etihad Stadium on Monday April 30 and Giggs believes that it will prove the pivotal match in the title run-in.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport:  "We have the experience but City have the hunger. If we both keeping going like this, everything will be decided in the derby."

The midfielder recently signed a one-year extension to his contract with the Old Trafford club, having notched his 900th appearance in the famous red shirt in February.

The former Wales international has been earmarked as a potential candidate for the manager’s job in the future, but he insisted that he is focused solely on prolonging his illustrious playing career.

"For now, I just want to play football but I'm prepared for my life after retirement," added Giggs.

"Becoming manager of Manchester United? We'll see, for now I just want to enjoy the moment.

"My goal as a youngster was to play one game for Manchester United. I achieved that dream, which I'm continuing to live at 38. I could not ask for more." - http://www.goal.com

Manchester United vs Fulham premier liga match preview

That is the spin being placed on this fixture by the pessimists in the blue half of Manchester and perhaps many overconfident Reds, but Martin Jol’s team are capable of upsetting the odds. Having conceded five to United at Craven Cottage in December, they will be yearning to redeem themselves and could make life difficult for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team.

Manchester United (probable, 4-3-3): De Gea; Jones, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs; Welbeck, Rooney, Hernandez.
Out: Anderson (hamstring), Fletcher (bowel condition), Lindegaard (ankle), Vidic (knee), Owen (thigh), Bebe (knee), Nani (ankle).

"It is positive news," he told Voetbal Primeur"You hear this and of course it is nice to know they are interested. "Aston Villa is a club I don't know very well, but they look good. "I have spoken with my agent and we won't be discussing anything during the season."

Tottenham Hotspur vs Stoke City premier league match preview

As horrible Saturday's nights events involving Fabrice Muamba were for Bolton's players, Spurs's players appeared equally distrubed and manager Harry Redknapp faces a job to get their spirits up as they chase a Champions League place.

Tottenham have lost their last three games in the Premier League and face a beligerent Stoke side who have already won twice against Redknapp's men. In the Carling Cup in September, following a 0-0 draw, Stoke knocked Spurs out on penalties. And in December, Spurs had Younes Kaboul sent off in the Premeir League game at the Britannia and lost 2-1.

Manchester City Vs Chelsea premier league match preview

Sergio Aguero, much attention may have been focused on the potential return of Carlos Tevez, but the man bought to replace the Argentine is continuing to excel. Aguero scored twice in City’s 3-2 Europa League victory over Sporting Lisbon and, even if the scoreline was not enough to send the Citizens through, it at least saw the former Atletico Madrid man hitting form.

Fernando Torres, the Spaniard ended a mammoth goal drought against Leicester at the weekend, but scoring against Championship opposition and breaching Manchester City’s backline are two different kettles of fish. It remains to be seen whether Torres really is back on song.

Blackburn Rovers Vs Sunderland premier league match preview

Blackburn have failed to win in the last five meetings between the two sides. Steve Kean's men have only managed to keep one clean sheet so far this season. William Hill are offering 15/2 for Blackburn to edge it 1-0 over Sunderland at Ewood Park. Junior Hoilett has made more successful runs than any other player in the league, with an average of 2.8 per match.

Both sides have only managed to win one game when their opponents take the lead first this season. 51 per cent of Sunderland's shots have been from outside of the box this season, with only QPR having a higher percentage in the league. Blackburn have seen 54 yellow cards and four reds - the only side with a worse disciplinary record are Chelsea, who have the same amount of reds but 57 yellows. Jason Lowe is the player with the most yellow cards with nine, but Lee Cattermole is only just behind with eight.

Sunday

Newcastle United Vs Norwich City premier league match preview

Defender Mike Williamson is confident Newcastle can re-ignite their charge for Europe by dispelling any talk of a "mini-crisis". The Magpies are without a Barclays Premier League win in four attempts and have collected only two points from the last 12 on offer. Nevertheless, they remain in sixth place, two points clear of closest chasers Liverpool, who narrowed the gap as a result of their 3-0 derby victory over Everton in midweek, 24 hours after Newcastle's narrow 2-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Norwich have taken the Premier League by storm but three defeats and a draw in their last four matches in all competitions suggest they may splutter rather than sprint to safety. That might be the effect of their players having covered more distance on the field than any other squad in the top flight. Lambert also had no fear about Norwich's latest trip to one of the major stadia of the English game. Sunday sees the Canaries travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle, something that is unlikely to faze a side that have already earned plenty of plaudits for their confident performances at Old Trafford and Anfield this season.

Fulham Vs Swansea City match preview

The last time Fulham met Swansea in the league at Craven Cottage, both sides were in the fourth tier of English football. Fulham won 2-1. Fulham has lost just one and won six of its last eight Premier League games at Craven Cottage. Fulham has recovered the most points (8) from losing positions in home matches this season.

Swansea’s last six away league games have seen the club alternate between wins and losses. Swansea will be without the services of flying winger Nathan Dyer as he serves the second game of his three-match suspension. Brendan Rodgers decided against appealing Dyer's ban as it could have resulted in the 24-year-old having another match added if the club's plea was rejected.

Tuesday

Liverpool Vs Everton match preview

Liverpool lost its third consecutive Premier League game against Sunderland on Saturday. It last lost four back-to-back Premier League games in the 2002-03 season with the Black Cats again being one of the teams it was defeated by. After 27 games this season, Dalglish's men have recorded the exact same number of points they had at this stage last campaign. The Reds won the first meeting between the two sides 2-0 at Goodison Park. The last time they did the derby double was in the 2009-10 season.

Everton (28) is one of only four clubs to score less than Liverpool (30) this season. The others being Wigan (23), Stoke (27) and QPR (29). Rodwell was controversially sent off in the last meeting with the Reds [pictured], becoming the 21st player to be dismissed in the tie since the start of the Premier League, although the midfielder's red was later rescinded by the FA. Moyes' side will go above its Merseyside rivals if it wins at Anfield in the 217th derby on Tuesday. The last time the Toffees were awarded a penalty in a competitive game at Anfield was in 1988, which was converted by Wayne Clarke in a 1-1 draw. Out of the 216 derbies so far, Liverpool have won 86, Everton has triumphed on 66 occasions and there have been 64 draws.
