Gattuso - I'll play for free

Midfielder fighting eye problem; Berlusconi to return to presidency role

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is so determined to fulfil his love of football that he has offered to play for free when he overcomes a serious eye problem.

The 34-year-old has not played since colliding with team-mate Alessandro Nesta in the Serie A opener on 9th September. Gattuso has been diagnosed with myasthenia, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease, in what are the latter years of his playing career. But the Italian remains fully focused on playing and has told Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani of his willingness to play without pay when he is fully fit. Gattuso, whose contract expires at the end of the season, said: "I'm ready to play for free even.

"I've told Adriano Galliani that it's not a matter of money. I want to return to doing what I love." Gattuso has been at Milan since 1999 and has won everything in a glittering career, including the 2006 World Cup with Italy. He said: "I live for football...at the age of 34, I have never thought about stopping." Meanwhile, Silvio Berlusconi is expected to return to the role of AC Milan president in April. A meeting of shareholders will be held that month to assess the club's accounts and the presidency will also be on the agenda. The Milan owner had to vacate the role of president of the Serie A club in 2008 after becoming Italy's Prime Minister. - http://www1.skysports.com/
