Many players have played past through rival teams in the Premier League without wearing the campaign shirt from Kick It Out, an organization that seeks to eradicate racism out of football. Anton Ferdinand, who suffered racism from Chelsea defender John Terry, was among Hughes’ players who refused to wear the t-shirt.

Match Preview

*HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPARISON (Last Five Matches)
None; both teams will meet for the first time in this season’s UEFA Champions League

The Manchester United squad have trekked into the unknown in their previous Champions League match this season when they fought Romanian champions and Group H second-placers CFR Cluj. United face another challenge of dealing with unfamiliar opponents Braga in the pitch, since the Portuguese side have not played past through rival English top-flight club yet.

United would not pit in Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand in defence. The tested back-line duo will exchange places with Scott Wootton and Alexander Buttner. Midfielders Shinji Kagawa, Ryan Giggs and Tom Cleverley could figure a comeback in the starting line-up, while possibilities for starter positions remain for Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Nani. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has the option of starting all of his four-man striker-force – Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, although in varying positions up front.

Braga captain Alan will be a threat United must reckon. He recorded an impressive performance during their 2-0 away win against Turkish side Galatasaray, having scored the second goal. Another potentially dangerous attacker is Eder, the club’s new main striker. He already scored four goals for his new club this season. Ruben Micael, on loan from Atletico Madrid, is a skilled playmaker that has made five goals since his move this season.

Sportsbook English Premier League News | Bacary Sagna Nearing Arsenal Comeback

SPORTSBOOK LATEST SPORTS NEWS – After a long spell in the sidelines, Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna will return to playing with the club.

Sagna, 29 years old, sustained a fractured leg, which ruled him out of France’s line-up for EURO 2012. He recently played past through rival side Reading with Arsenal’s Under-21 team with Jack Wilshere as part of his recovery process.

Saying that he is aiming to reach 100% conditioning for the club, Sagna noted that he wants to “bring what [he] can for the team”. He praised defender Carl Jenkinson for impressively taking on his place in the first team.

Famous Politician | Steven Gerrard Keen on Retaining England Captaincy

THE LATEST SPORTS NEWS – Just like a famous politician would, Liverpool midfielder and England captain Steven Gerrard said that he wants to keep the captaincy of the national team.

Wayne Rooney, who sub-captained for England as they played past through rival minnows San Marino 5-0 in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, earlier expressed his desire to become captain of The Three Lions someday.

Gerrard, who is on his way to his 99th cap for England, said that he is “really enjoying the role” of being the captain. He noted that Rooney has to wait first as he himself waited for a long time to become captain.

World Cup Qualifier Promotion | Aaron Hughes Plan to Cause Upset For Portugal

THE LATEST SPORTS NEWS – In his bid for promotion of his national side towards their 2014 Rio dream, Northern Ireland defender Aaron Hughes aim to block the hopes of a Cristiano Ronaldo-powered Portugal side when they face in Porto for the World Cup qualifiers tonight.

Northern Ireland was not successful when they played past through rival Russia, to which they lost 2-0. Their 1-1 draw against Luxembourg left them hanging in fourth place of Group F.

Citing Russia’s 1-0 win against Portugal, Hughes believes that his side can beat the Portuguese even though they do not get dominant possession of the ball. He noted that his side plans to “sit and defend and hit [Portugal] on the counter attack."

EPL Scoreboard Latest Match News: Ashley Cole Set to Leave Chelsea after Current Season

EPL LATEST MATCH UP OCTOBER – Chelsea defender Ashley Cole recently rejected to sign a one-year contract extension with the club. He is bound to discuss his future with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain on January.

Chelsea has a new policy of not retaining players who are over the age of 30. Cole seems to be the latest casualty of said rule after the club saw the departure of talisman Didier Drogba. The Ivorian striker rejected a one-year extension deal and made his move to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

Real Madrid currently appears to be a viable destination for the England left back. Jose Mourinho, current manager of the Spanish champions, brought Cole to Chelsea when he was still The Blues’ manager.

Cole appeared 187 times for Chelsea, which has played past through rival European clubs to win last season’s Champions League.

Arsenal Get First Defeat of the Season from Chelsea

Current league table toppers Chelsea played past through rival London side Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Failed attempts and poor defending of the home side proved costly as the visitors recorded an away victory with impressive defence and sheer opportunism.

Fernando Torres overcame his reputation for frequent inconsistencies as he evaded a challenge from Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny and keeper Vito Mannone in firing the opening goal of the match. The Spanish international attempted for another score but shot wide instead.

Arsenal did not get much luck early in the game as playmaker Abou Diaby went out of the pitch due to a hip injury. They continued on to rally for an equalizer when Gervinho, taking off from an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain assist, superbly finished ahead of a defiant John Terry and flew the ball beyond keeper Petr Cech.

While Arsenal’s defence have gained early acclaim this season due to its improvements, it failed to show strongly against Chelsea when they claimed another goal on the 53rd minute. Juan Mata found the back of the net via a penalty kick caused by Thomas Vermaelen’s foul on Torres.

More close attempts followed for Arsenal in their bid to gain an equalizer. Lukas Podolski fired a header that looked headed inside the net but Cech rushed and finely saved the shot. Olivier Giroud’s open goal shot disappointingly bounced back away from the net.

The match proved to be a breakthrough win by Chelsea in their target to gain the league title unbeaten. The Champions League winners, led by Roberto di Matteo, emphasized importance in attack, as regarded by the presence of Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard.

Manager Arsene Wenger, for his part, deemed his side’s defence lamentable. He noted that they account themselves for their mistakes as they were not supposed to concede goals to big rivals like Chelsea.

Tottenham Win at Manchester United’s Old Trafford for the First Time in 23 Years

Andre Villas-Boas’ side gave Tottenham Hotspur their first win at Manchester United’s home turf Old Trafford after 23 years. The match – a combination of Spurs’ resiliency and flimsy defending from United, ended 2-3.

The Spurs gained the lead as early as two minutes when Jan Vertonghen, exhibiting impressive passing with Gareth Bale, slotted within the penalty area. He effectively escaped an encounter with United defender Rio Ferdinand, whose performance seemed lukewarm throughout the match.

As the visiting Spurs played past through rival side United, they held on consistently in keeping the first half to themselves. Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey successfully maintained full control of the centre against challenges from Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

With the target of becoming opening scorers fulfilled, the Spurs were able to follow on with the momentum by sliding another goal 32 minutes into the game. Bale took off from a Dembele pass and snuck out of United keeper Anders Lindegaard’s save for a solid finishing.

United entered half time with none of their players figuring in the score sheet. Wayne Rooney took over from Giggs as the second half opened. The England striker then assisted Nani, who burst a six-yard shot that was his side’s first goal in the game.

The succeeding minutes gave the tensest moments in the game. The Spurs fought back to widen the lead when Bale made another score sheet effort. A weak saving attempt from Lindegaard allowed a rebound from Dempsey to get in. Shinji Kagawa responded within seconds to fire a Robin van Persie pass inside the enemy woodwork.

With United seeking for an equalizer, the Spurs strived to hold on to their delicate lead amidst the presence of the hosts’ attacking options in the pitch. Rooney’s free kick did not find the back of the net while van Persie shot from offside. Danny Welbeck’s takeover from Kagawa did not result to any potential equalizer.

Tottenham’s victory at Old Trafford – a momentous one for them, ended a 23-year old drought that gave great acclaim to Villas-Boas as having played his best match for the side. Gary Lineker, the man who scored for the Spurs’ 1-0 win against hosts United in 1989, expressed his delight for the club’s triumph.
