Chelsea has a new policy of not retaining players who are over the age of 30. Cole seems to be the latest casualty of said rule after the club saw the departure of talisman Didier Drogba. The Ivorian striker rejected a one-year extension deal and made his move to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
Real Madrid currently appears to be a viable destination for the England left back. Jose Mourinho, current manager of the Spanish champions, brought Cole to Chelsea when he was still The Blues’ manager.
Cole appeared 187 times for Chelsea, which has played past through rival European clubs to win last season’s Champions League.
