Zoltan Gera has moved closer to making his West Bromwich Albion return in time for Saturday's trip to Arsenal.
Gera, who underwent surgery on a foot problem after rejoining Albion from Fulham this summer, has been an unused substitute in their last two matches.
Manager Roy Hodgson has now given his clearest indication yet the 32-year-old will complete his comeback at the Emirates Stadium this weekend by withdrawing him from the squad for Tuesday night's reserve match with Chelsea.
Gera saw his first match action in five months a fortnight ago when he played 45 minutes of the reserves' 3-1 win over Arsenal and Hodgson believes he will now benefit more from training with the first team this week than another second-string outing.
Albion assistant head coach Michael Appleton told the club's official website: "He's been pulled out with a view to Saturday.
"He's had three weeks of training now and what you have to weigh up is what's best - 45 minutes in a reserve-team fixture or an hour-and-a-half training session working hard in preparation for a game on Saturday?
"We just thought another session in and around the players - and most of the players that are going to be involved on Saturday - is better." - http://www.premierleague.com
