Chelsea suffer Lampard injury blow

Midfielder has small tear in calf muscle and will miss FA Cup tie with QPR

Chelsea will be without midfielder Frank Lampard for their FA Cup tie against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday after he picked up an injury. Lampard, 33, suffered a small tear in his calf muscle during the 0-0 draw at Norwich City in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday. He had a scan on Monday to discover the extent of the injury and will now sit out the fourth round match at Loftus Road. Lampard has played in 20 Barclays Premier League matches this season and is Chelsea's joint-leading goalscorer with nine, and the Blues will hope to have him back for their trip to Swansea on Tuesday 31st January.

A statement on the Chelsea website (chelseafc.com) said: "The midfielder is unlikely to feature in the match against QPR on Saturday but is expected to join up with the rest of the squad in Mallorca where they are training this week." Chelsea flew out to Spain straight after Saturday's lunchtime draw at Carrow Road for a few days of warm-weather training, which manager Andre Villas-Boas says is simply to give the players a rest from their usual routine. "It's a break of routine, nothing more," said the Portuguese coach. "It is nothing new, winter camps are normally done with Premier League teams and we decided to opt for Spain. "We gave them the day off on Sunday, in a different place, and regarding the work we will focus the same."- http://www.premierleague.com
